Are there any companies in Japan that do not require japanese skills?
Are you a foreigner or Japanese?
Does anyone has experience working from foreign country? How is it?
My friend is moving to Japan at the end of this month and looking for an English speaking realtor.
I don’t know any as I’m a Japanese speaker, but thought some of you might’ve used English speaking / bilingual realtor to look for a rental?
Asking for realtor names / companies I should look into.
Thanks!
I am a Japanese person and I live in Japan.
I used to live abroad for a few years for university and had some friends/flatmates in university dormitory back then. I wasn’t really close to most of them since I was only there for a short time and didn’t have much in common with them.
Recently I heard from a mutual friend that one of the local guys I lived with got his PhD at a well-known uni in the UK. Even though we weren’t that close and barely kept in touch (we were basically just flatmates and were in the same friend group (kind of)), I thought it’d be nice to congratulate him since I know getting a PhD is quite demanding. So I sent him a message like: “I heard from XX (mutual friend’s name) that you got a PhD! Congrats!”
But he hasn’t even opened my DM, and instead he’s posting on his story!
So my question is: is it normal to ignore old friends even when they mean well?
Not sure how many people here are actually keen on talking in English, but I have seen no activities in the past few months.
So, I was at home all day
For non-Japanese people working in Japan, what’s your Japanese level?
My partner and I are looking to buy an apartment next year but ideally don’t want to put too much 頭金 in.
Anyone here have a good bank recommendation?
We’ll be married next year and he should’ve gotten his PR by then.
Any advice is welcomed!

Since some of you asked, here’s our profile:
Me - Japanese citizen
Partner - applying for his PR
We’re trying to get a “used” apartment, but only under his name since I already own an apartment (and don’t have a lot of buffer left to get another loan) and we won’t be married till mid next year so can’t do pair loan yet.
So ideally, looking for a bank that’ll loan him without his PR and have a minimum down payment requirement.
I can’t see Mt.Fuji because that is covered by cloud
I am a non-native Japanese speaker. I have been in Japan quite a while and I speak Japanese (I have passed N2) and have worked in Japanese environments (but not in a role where communication skill was absolutely essential) but I am definitely not fluent.
For the past several years I feel like I have been stuck at a plateau in my Japanese where daily life is not a problem and I can have full conversations in Japanese but I have never felt fluent and still frequently get lost in complex conversations. My speaking has gotten significantly worse since I work in a mainly english speaking environment now. Now I am wondering how much effort it would be to actually become fluent but I don't know realistically know how much effort it would take.
I am just wondering what other people did to basically get over the plateau (or if you even hit a plateau) to feel like you actually became fluent in the language. Please share your stories! 🙇
Let’s introduce ourselves.
Here is sample format (feel free to do whatever you want though):
- generally who are you
- what are you might want to talk about here
- what is your favorite animal
What other country would you consider moving to or working in?
This is a question for true bilingual speakers.
Are you able to tell English sentences generated / translated by Chat GPT from one written by real native speakers?
As another Japanese who uses English as second language, I can recognize Chat GPT Japanese but cannot do for Chat GPT English

I think this is good for Japan but to be honest I don’t quite understand what the company is doing. Especially the whole “nature inspired intelligence” is a bit confusing to me.
It seems just like a big investment in smart AI people but no real plan.
Maybe it will still be successful. What do guys think? Would you join it?
I plan to do the following this year.
- At least study outside of work for 1 hour a day.
- Exercise 3 days a week to maintain shape.
- Learn how to cook food for myself rather than eating out everyday.
It's not a lot, but I think this is a start for me...
In this area we can talk about anything we want in English, only rule is that you need to use English.
